Racing

Racing is a tradition with the LSC. The Race Committee organizes and records all race results. Races are timed with a modified Portsmouth Handicap Number system. This scoring system accomodates a variety of sailing vessels that participate; so all participants can consider this a level playing field. You can learn more about the Portsmouth Handicap Numbersystem by reviewing the bulletin board at the harbor. The novice racers have always recognized that racing will be an educational experience and the best way to learn from the "Old Salts". All eager participants should review the Racing page and report to the picnic table for the traditional Captain's meeting prior to each race. Racers should have a basic understanding of the Racing Rules of Sailing. Copies of this handbook can be found in your favorite boating supply store, or just ask a veteran racer for his/her old copy. The BOG encourages all participants to bring food and beverages for a fun filled day of sailing. Refer to page 10 of the LSC Handbook for information about the LSC races, courses and rules.
